“CONCLAVE”
A papal conclave is the assembly of cardinals in the Vatican Palace in Vatican City to elect a new pope.
It involves a system of strict seclusion and a detailed voting process. The voting takes place inside the Sistine Chapel of the palace, and is the oldest historical method of electing a particular head of state that remains in use to the present day.
This work was executed on wood panel using salvaged exterior house paints, acrylic paint, oil based wood stain, and clear polycrylic sealer.
The sides are finished in black, elegantly framing the deep crimson red and orange tones of the work at a crisp edge. Click on link for additional closeup image. Work is on display at Redoux Home Market in Mandeville, LA.
“ARGYLE PINK”
Aquamarine, rose, blush, almond, bone, and champagne tones find their way to the surface of this work. The distressed edges add a soft note of imperfection and authenticity.
Inspired by the infusing and kaleidoscopic colors of a fancy cut pink diamond, “Argyle Pink” is another work in a series of strato-graphic paintings Marc has created by etching, sanding, smoothing, and abrading multiple layers of latex enamel paints, oil based stain, and varnishes. The work is reminiscent of Monet’s Giverny; the closer you approach, the more is offered. SOLD
This work is available online (click on image with link above) and does not include shipping. Call the studio at 985 966 7000 for enhanced information.
“PANEL 57-A”
The surface displays multiple layers of paints and stain, a bit kaleidoscopic in nature, worn, gouged, and etched over time. The effect imparts a mosaic of hues ranging from aquamarine, teal, and salmon, to sunset and atmospheric pinks, raw woods, and oxidized bone, almond, and creams.
Roughly textured and quite pleasing to the touch, reminiscent of a desk, table, or door painted over endless times, but that you dare not strip to the raw wood; rather, you endeavor to capture its strata, history and depth all at once.
Intentional gouging, scratches, abrasions, and gashes add to the effect that time has imparted. This work is 48” x 48” and was executed on solid wood panel.
Offering a soft yet commanding presence, the work communicates an abstract/non-representational style without drawing too much overt attention to itself, coaxing the viewer to explore the work.
Signed in Winsor & Newton Charcoal by Marc.
One of three original works in this style, this relief study of a meandering shotgun rosebush is haunting, perhaps even foreboding. Click image to read more…SOLD, but more may be available. Call 985 966 7000.
A very vintage still life, with emphasis placed on the background mood rather than the subject. This 24” x 36” panel was intentionally distressed, shredded, clawed, gouged, and ground down...then and only then, were the roses applied. SOLD
“Scratch Offs”, a diptych completed in 2023. Sold to private collector.
